    Message from the President

The SDFG Board and I are so excited for what we are planning for this coming year! We appreciate your patience as we got initial plans completed so we could share details with all of you. One priority for this year is to make sure that all area teachers (members and non-members alike) know what's happening with SDFG so all of you can spread the word about our amazing events to your students. To help with that, we're bringing back the Teachers' Luncheon next month! More details below, but it's going to be a fun time where you can meet board members, share ideas, and hear what we have in store for the 2019-2020 year. I highly encourage you to come! For the rest of our members, stay tuned to our events page. We've also put a snapshot of upcoming events on our home page for easy reference.

I know I always say this in my messages, but please don't hesitate to share any feedback with me or any board member. We want to make this organization better each year and the way we do that is through working together and sharing ideas. I'm looking forward to seeing you at some of our fall events coming up!

    May Newsletter

    Wednesday, May 15, 2019

    Message from the President

I can't believe that our 2019 Spring Festival was a month ago! There were several times during the event that I looked around, proud of how the flute community came together in such a positive, encouraging way. I am so grateful to all of you who participated in some way in our largest event of the year.

We started the day with a wonderful warm up session by Alina Windell. Leone Buyse was masterful during her recital and gave such wonderful tips to the masterclass participants. The Young Artist winners performed beautifully and it was a joy to have the Orange County School of the Arts Flute Ensemble join us. What a polished performance they gave - I'm sure in no small part to the guidance of their director, Janelle Barrera! Thanks to all of the teachers who were in attendance and also helped prepare their students for competitions. We couldn't have done it without all the volunteers who helped things run smoothly and the adjudicators for their thoughtful comments for the competitors. A special thank you as well to our sponsors and exhibitors for their support and participation.

Thanks to all of you who helped make this event a success!

If you have any thoughts about the 2019 Spring Festival, email me at sandiegofluteguild@gmail.com. The SDFG Board wants to hear from you so we can continue to make all our events even better!

Wishing you a wonderful May and start to the summer,

    Farah Zolghadr, President

    Chamber Fest Recap

Our Chamber Fest on January 13th was a rousing success! We had 16 ensembles perform and receive comments from our amazing judges, Cheryl Bretsnyder and Tracy Goodwin. It was great to see such a wide variety of ages and skill levels represented. San Marcos High School was a beautiful venue and the staff there was extremely welcoming!

Visit our Facebook page for more photos from that day and this link (members only) for recordings from the event.

We're already excited for next year's event in January 2020!

    Volunteers Needed

Our Spring Festival is our biggest event of the year and it takes a village for it to be executed well. We are thankful and reliant on all of our Spring Festival volunteers and we are calling everyone that can help in some capacity. There are numerous ways you can contribute to this event, such as being a runner, room monitor, division proctor, and much more. Even 1-2 hours is a huge help for us. Volunteers will be recognized for their work. Students who need service hours can use this opportunity to fulfill those requirements.

If you would like to give back to the guild and be a proactive member of the community, please consider helping us out by visiting our Volunteer Page.

Recital & Chamber Fest Recordings Available

Recordings from the Member's Recital and Chamber Fest recordings are now available. Members who have performed at these events may find their recordings on the SDFG website. As a reminder, performance recordings are a newly added perk to your membership for this season. If you plan to participate in the events outside of the Spring Festival, there will be an audio recording available with your performance.

Scholarship Donors: Mary & Naomi A. Grant

We are making a special shoutout to Mary Grant & Naomi A. Grant for donating to our scholarship fund in honor of their mother, Winona Grant. Their donation will be used for scholarships to help deserving individuals with membership fees, competitions fees, private lesson costs, and instruments.
